A Toast

(thoughts the day after the 4th of July)

Festival. Fete. Fiesta. Singular words meaning a celebration. A celebration of what? A religious holiday? An event? Or are they all synonymous for an excuse to take a day off, to interrupt the flow of civilization as we know it?

But then what is civilization as we know it if it doesn’t include a party once in a while?

Looking at a list of holidays on a calendar can be a revealing insight into the history of man as he celebrates individual and world events.

Holidays can be a reflection of who we are as much as what we are. So I offer a toast to whatever festival, fete or fiesta happens to be appropriate at the moment, personal or otherwise.

The End
